Fertilis Fibula | Silver, Copper and Chrysoprase Brooch

Fibula: (n.) A brooch or pin for fastening garments, typically at the right shoulder. It's an ancient name for a decorative, but simple, safety pin.

I created this fibula (brooch) for an art show some years back. I wanted to forge the actual pin mechanism from one piece of sterling silver similar to ancient techniques. It was a fun learning experience! To decorate the finished pin I created a copper top plate with floral embellishments and riveted it to the sterling silver pin. The chrysoprase stones I chose glow against the textured copper plate. I called my creation "Fertilis Fibula".

Metal: Sterling silver, copper
Stones: Chrysoprase, 5mm round
Brooch: 2-1/2 inches tall by 2 inches wide (6x5cm)

The brooch is hallmarked with my initials on the back. It'll come packaged ready to give as a gift.
