Silver and Gembone Stone Pendant with Willow Leaf

This polished fossil dinosaur bone (gembone) gets its color from minerals in the soil as the natural bone was replaced by chalcedony (quartz) over the millenia. This created agatized dinosaur bone or dinosaur gembone, as it's known in the rock trade.

To create the stone's setting I hand sawed the freestyle pattern from a sheet of sterling silver I textured, and created the hidden bail on the back for it's leather cord. I hand forged a sterling silver willow leaf from another piece of textured sterling silver, and added a tiny amethyst stone to bring out the lovely lilac hue I could see in the gembone.

The pendant is heavily textured front and back and oxidized dark so that the details pop.
It sits on a 3mm dark brown leather cord that includes handmade sterling silver endcaps and chain with a sturdy sterling silver lobster clasp.
