A strikingly beautiful stone, this specimen of astrophyllite is from the Kola Peninsula in Russia. In the accompanying photos, I tried to show you the flashes of coppery orange found in the depths of this stone. It's truly gorgeous!

The sunflower setting I hand forged from sterling silver using a technique called repousse. This is when you hammer a pattern onto the metal which is resting on a bowl of softened pitch. Afterwards I hand sawed the pattern and mounted the setting onto a size 9 textured ring band. The sterling silver has been oxidized to darken the metal and the high spots were polished shiny. The ring itself is very comfortable to wear as the flower sits above your finger and knuckles by the thickness of the completely circular band.
